4 important skilled visas you can apply for immigrating to Australia fast

Have you heard of the changes in state nomination?

The General Skilled Migration (GSM) Program is one of the main means for listed specialists to migrate to Australia. Candidates should meet the fundamental needs of GSM Visa and meet the Australian Migration Points Assessment to suit the bill for a visa to maneuver to Australia.

Independent Skilled Migration Visa (subclass 189)

The Australian Skilled-Independent Visa (subclass 189) is an Australian immigration visa for skilled workers not funded by a hirer, a city or state, or a representative of a family. Anywhere in Australia, a visa holder may work and live indefinitely. The request may also include individual family members.

Both the Offshore Skilled – Independent (Subclass 175) and the Onshore (Subclass 885) visas were replaced in 2012 by this Skilled Independent Subclass 189 visa.

You will have to first file an Expression of Interest through the Australian Government’s Home Affairs SkillSelect website before submitting a valid application for this visa. You can file an EOI being both inside or outside of Australia. If a state or territory successfully nominates you, and you meet the basic requirements skilled visa 189, only then you will receive an invitation to apply for this visa.

Conditions you must fulfill for Skilled Visa 189

As you already know applications for skilled visa 189 are by invitation only, and to apply you must:-

  • file visa application within 60 days from the issuance of invitation
  • have experience in a nominated occupation on Australia’s Skilled Occupations List (SOL), and; 
  • have a skills assessment done with the relevant assessing authority for that occupation 
  • submit an Expression of Interest (EOI)
  • be older than 18 and less than 45 years of age when you receive your invitation 
  • meet General Skilled Migration basic requirements, including English language score, medical check, and police verification 
  • have a score of minimum 65 points on the migration eligibility table
Family

Skilled 189 Visa entitles you to include the following members of your family in your visa application:

  • your partner or spouse
  • any dependent children of you or of your partner’s
  • any dependent relative of you or of your partner’s
Processing

Skilled 190 Visa has arrangements for Priority processing. These arrangements determine the order in which Australian immigration considers applications regardless of when they have been submitted.

  • costs from AUD $4,045 onwards
  • processing time from 11 to 13 months
Entitlements

This visa allows you and your accompanying family members to:

  • live and work permanently in Australia 
  • study in Australia 
  • enroll in Medicare, Australia’s scheme for health-related care and expenses 
  • access certain social security payments 
  • apply for Australian citizenship (subject to residency criteria) 
  • sponsor family members for permanent residence.

Skilled Nominated Visa (subclass 190)

State nomination helps you to get a skilled migration visa from the Australian Government. To receive State nomination you must have an associated degree related to your occupation, and this occupation must be featured on the State Appointive Occupation List (SOL) and meet all the state and federal Government’s eligibility necessities. There also is a further occupation list known as the Supplementary Consummate List that you will access only if you meet some additional necessities.

Both Offshore Skilled – Sponsored (Subclass 176) and Onshore Skilled (Subclass 886) were replaced in the year 2012 by this Skilled Nominated Subclass 190 visa.

Employment obligations

Australian states or territories put some obligations which you must meet with during the validity of skilled 190 visa:-

  • You must stay in (your nominated state or territory) for at least two years 
  • keep (your nominated state or territory) informed of any changes to your address 
  • complete any surveys and provide any extra information whenever asked
Entitlements

This visa allows you and your accompanying family members to:

  • live and work permanently in Australia 
  • study in Australia 
  • enroll in Medicare, Australia’s scheme for health-related care and expenses 
  • access certain social security payments 
  • apply for Australian citizenship (subject to residency criteria) 
  • sponsor eligible relatives for permanent residence
Processing

Skilled 190 Visa has arrangements for Priority processing. These arrangements determine the order in which Australian immigration considers applications regardless of when they have been submitted.

  • The processing time is from 8 to 10 months

Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (Provisional) Visa – Subclass 494

This visa enables regional employers to address identified labour shortages within their region by sponsoring skilled workers where employers can’t source an appropriately skilled Australian worker.

The Skilled Employer-Sponsored Regional (Subclass 494) visa replaced the Subclass 489 Skilled Regional (Provisional) visa in 2019-2020.

Conditions you must fulfill for Skilled Visa 494
  • be nominated to work in an occupation on the relevant skilled occupation list
  • have at least 3 years relevant work experience in your nominated occupation
  • have a relevant skills assessment, unless an exemption applies
  • work only for your sponsor or associated entity, unless an exemption applies
  • be under 45 years of age, unless an exemption applies
  • meet minimum standards of English language proficiency
Family

You can include members of the family unit in your application. You can:

  • include them when you submit your visa application
  • add a dependent child after you submit but before we decide on your visa application
Entitlements
  • live, work and study only in designated regional areas of Australia for 5 years
  • travel to and from Australia as many times as you want while the visa is valid
  • if eligible, apply for permanent residence after 3 years from the time your visa is granted
Employment Obligations

You and your family must comply with all visa conditions and Australian laws.

You must begin your employment within 90 days of:

  • entering Australia, if you are outside of Australia on the time you are granted your visa
  • the visa grant date if you are in Australia on the time you are granted your visa

You must only work in your nominated occupation and only work for your nominating employer in regional Australia. If you do not, your visa might get canceled.

Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) Visa – Subclass 491

This visa is for skilled workers or people nominated by an Australian state or territory government to live and work in regional Australia. The subclass 491 Visa is a provisional or temporary visa allowing you to stay in regional Australia for 5 years. It is only for those skilled workers who want to live and work in regional Australia.

Once you get this visa approved then you can apply for permanent residence, if eligible, through the Permanent Residence (Skilled Regional) visa (subclass 191) – which commences on 16 November 2022.

Conditions you must fulfill for Skilled Visa 491
  • you must be nominated to apply by an Australian state or territory government agency or must be sponsored by a relative who is an Australian resident or citizen
  • you must have your occupation listed on the skilled occupation list
  • you must have a suitable skills assessment done for your occupation
  • you must have an invitation letter to apply for the subclass 491 visa
  • you must accumulate 65 points on the migration eligibility points table
Processing
  • costs AUD4,045 for the main applicant
Family

You can include members of the family unit in your application. You can:

  • include them when you submit your visa application
  • add a dependent child after you submit but before we decide on your visa application.

Family members who apply for the visa must meet our health and character requirements.

Family members not accompanying you to Australia might also need to meet our health and character requirements.

If your partner or dependent children are not included in this application, tell us the reason why (for example, they already hold Australian citizenship or are a permanent resident).

Entitlements
  • you are allowed to study, work and live in Australia for 5 years from the date you are granted with the skilled 491 visa
  • you must live, work and study only in the designated region of an Australian state or territory
  • you can travel to and from Australia as many times as you want, during the validity period of this visa
  • you can apply for permanent residence, if eligible, through the Permanent Residence (Skilled Regional) visa (subclass 191) – which commences on 16 November 2022.
Visa and Employment Obligations
  • 8515 – you must not be married or into a de-facto relationship before your entry in Australia
  • 8578 – you must notify the Department of Home Affairs if any details about you or your passport change such as an address, name, etc.
  • 8579 – you must live, study, and work only in the designated regional or low population area as specified on your visa
  • 8580 – you must provide evidence of your home, school, and office addresses whenever requested
  • 8581 – you must attend an interview whenever the Department of Home Affair asks you to in the invitation letter
