Australian Third Working Holiday Visa

Australia Working Holiday Visas are the visas that allow quite a few tourists, who are aged between 18 to 30, to have an extended holiday. They can extend their holiday stay in Australia and can work for the short term to meet their expenses.

Along with this, it is quite important to know that these visas are valid for up to 12 months in a year. Visas holders can either work for up to 6 months or can opt to study for 4 months. In a few cases, you might be allowed to work for 12 months in some specified work area.

Usually, the Third Working Holiday Visa is granted to those who meet the additional specified work requirements. There are only a few countries that can apply for this visa. The selective countries have a limitation of the age factor too. The people who are applying for this visa must be below 31 years of age. However, the people of Canada, France, and Ireland have exception in age.

The Canadian, French and Irish citizens, however, have a bit of liberty and people up to 35 years of age can apply for this visa. The reason for this is because when the Australian government announced to increase the age limit from 31 to 35 only Canada, Ireland and France accepted this proposal.

The above-mentioned country’s residents must satisfy a Specified Work Requirement to apply for the visa. For Australia’s Third Working Holiday Visa, the “specified work” type includes:-

  • Plant cultivation
  • Animal cultivation
  • Fishing
  • Pearling
  • Tree farming
  • Felling
  • Mining
  • And construction

The duration for Third Working Holiday Visa is six months and if you want to work a full day then it is 88 calendar days if you want to work for three months. In case if you want for 6 months then it should be 176 calendar days. There are paid and unpaid leaves provided too, depending upon the employer though.

There is this other requirement which is quite important. You cannot bring any dependent child anytime during your stay along with you. Also, you must have the passport of any of the countries listed above.

Additional requirements

There are several other additional requirements which are needed for the people who belong to the countries that are listed above to be eligible for this Third Working Holiday Visa:

  • The people who are applying for this visa must have a decent score of at least a band score of 4.5+ in English.
  • If the person who is applying for this third party Third Working Holiday Visa is from the USA, Israel, and Chile then he/she must have secondary school qualification.
  • In general, people will have to show that they have acquired tertiary education or at least have read for 2 years under a graduate degree.
Application Process

‘DOHA’ Department of Home Affairs of Australia deals with the application process. You must apply for the visa along with as many supporting documents as possible. Also, you must have sufficient funds to sponsor yourself in the initial days of your holiday.

In addition to all these, you may be asked to produce documents related to health and character by the immigration department. Also, you must make sure that you must visit Australia within 12 months of the date in case your visa is granted. It is advisable:

  • You must not work more than 6 months in a company until and unless it is exempted by the company.
  • You must not study for more than 4 months.

However, you may work for more than 6 months for the same company in the agricultural sector. This is done to increase the workforce available and willing to work in the agriculture season. In this particular sector, you need not ask for permission for an extension.
